Salomon Quest 12 ski boot review
A pair of these arrived the day before our march trip to Les Arcs and so I didn't have a great deal of time to fit them. All I did was heat mould them and put in a pair of Sole custom footbeds.
The first impressions were how light they were compared to my Head Edge 10s and what a brilliant looking pair of boots. They did feel very snug on the first day but this soon passed as they bedded in so the sizing is spot on. I normally have to put in a varus wedge to take the pressure off my inside ankle bone but didn't feel any discomfort all week. The 100mm last was fine in the fore foot which surprised me as I chose the Head boots for their 104mm last but the Quest didn't any narrower.
The performance is something else! I did think a 3 buckle boot was never going to give me enough support but was wrong on that point. The energy transmission through the boots is superb, I think this may be due in part to the large velcro top strap being elasticated giving an even resistance and brilliant rebound. The ablility to close the liner with a lacing system helps with the accurate feel to these boots.
The walking mode works well too reducing discomfort on the calf muscle when hiking up the mountain or walking to the lift.
In conclusion I would say Salomon have got the Quest right at the first shot, I took out my trusty Head boots in case I didn't get on with these but they stayed in their bag the whole week..
