The recommendation is to wear only one pair of socks, and they should be long enough to extend beyond the top of your ski boot. We believe that you should only wear socks designed for the purpose - walking socks are too thick, cotton sports socks too short, ribbed socks don't offer enough cushioning, etc.
If you rent boots or if yours don't fit you that snugly, tube socks with a high wool content and a loopstitch layer next to the skin are fine. If your boots fit closely, go for technical socks - made from lightweight 'wicking' materials, thinner but with cushioning in critical areas such as around the shins.
Make sure you wear the right size, avoid wrinkling, but above all, find the sock/boot combination which works best for you.
